Yet it would not be until 2012 that this idea would really take flight. While Tricia was serving in mainland China through an educational nonprofit, the spiritual needs of those around her became increasingly evident to the point where she began spending much of her time assisting with the pastoral needs of the local community. A later trip to Japan, India and Hong Kong would reveal that these other Asian countries with far greater religious freedom were also in need of greater pastoral care and the beautiful hope and love that only our Lord Jesus Christ can offer. Inspired by a fellow missionary in Asia and motivated by the lives of others in Asia, the St. Francis Xavier Lay Missionary Society was formed to focus on sharing the truth and love of Jesus Christ with young adults in Asia. an important gateway to East Asia with its blend of modern and traditional, East and West, and a diverse mix of people and backgrounds. With just under 10% of Hong Kong baptized as Christians and a population with as much socio-economic diversity as it has ethnic variety, there are a myriad of opportunities to serve as a witness of God's grace and to share God's truth and love with others. Our ministry focuses on reaching out to young adults within the more metropolitan areas to help them engage more fully with their faith and discern God's will for their lives. Much of this is done through developing and leading faith formation programs, empowering a young adult lay leadership, and doing grassroots evangelical and service ministry. "[Would they but] listen actively to what God is saying to them. They would forget their own desires, their human affairs, and give themselves over entirely to God’s will and his choice. They would cry out with all their heart: Lord, I am here! What do you want me to do? Send me anywhere you like - even to India." - St. Francis Xavier to St. Ignatius of Loyola, India, 1542-1544 In the land of St. Thomas the Apostle, St. Francis Xavier and St. Teresa of Calcutta you will find a deep rich faith in many Indians. Yet the struggle in India as in much of the rest of the world, is truly engaging young adults in their faith and encouraging others to see how Christ has called them to be a bold witness of their faith. The Christian faith is very much alive in many regions throughout India, and we serve to help it flourish further with many opportunities for evangelization, faith formation, and social justice.
