Our Mission

“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” - Matthew 28: 19-20

Our Mission

The St. Francis Xavier Lay Missionary Society is dedicated to the formation, sending and support of Catholic lay missionaries to bring the love of Jesus Christ to others in Asia, through diverse ministries of evangelization, faith formation, and social justice.

Our History

The spirit of this ministry began with a desire to further spread the love and joy of Christ to Japan at the turn of the century. Yet it would not be until 2012 that this idea would really take flight. While Tricia Bølle was serving in mainland China through an educational nonprofit, the spiritual needs of those around her became increasingly evident to the point where she began spending much of her time assisting with the pastoral needs of the local community. A later trip to Japan, India and Hong Kong would reveal that these other Asian countries with far greater religious freedom were also in need of greater pastoral care and the beautiful hope and love that only our Lord Jesus Christ can offer.

Inspired by a fellow missionary in Asia and motivated by the lives of others in Asia, the St. Francis Xavier Lay Missionary Society was formed to focus on sharing the truth and love of Jesus Christ with young adults in Asia.  Like our patron saint, we seek to represent Jesus Christ to others through compassion, caring, teaching and service.

Our Vision

The St. Francis Xavier Lay Missionary Society is dedicated to pursuing the Christian call to mission by serving in Asia in an effort to draw all people, especially young adults, into a deeper and more meaningful relationship with God. As Catholic lay missionaries, we devote ourselves to bringing the love of Christ to non-Christians and providing faith formation for those already baptized to form loving faith communities of intentional disciples empowered by the Holy Spirit and dedicated to serving Christ in every aspect of life.

We further seek to:

  • Spread awareness within the Church of the special call of many laity to foreign missions and the universal call of all Christians to evangelization

  • Aid individuals in their discernment to serve God in a foreign culture

  • Form lay missionaries for a foreign ministry of a high standard, grounded in faith and love in the service of our Lord.

Values

We strive to conduct ourselves as ambassadors for Christ, serving with

• love• compassion• understanding
• encouragement• humility• respect
• leadership• courage• social justice

so that more people throughout the world might be filled with the hope and love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
